Centrum Cephas and
Wiggins Scholarship

The SSBA is an annual donator to the CC&W Scholarship Fund, enabling promising young musicians an opportunity to participate in the week-long Country Blues Workshop at Fort Worden leading up to the Port Townsend Blues & Heritage Festival. The workshop provides participants a chance to live and play with the bearers of acoustic country blues traditions. The workshop's main focus is on the older, pre-war styles of blues, but attendees are also exposed to derivitive forms as well. Daily classes are offered in Piedmont-style finger picking, blues guitar, slide guitar, harmonica, fiddle, mandolin, blues piano, blues singing and gospel choir, all taught by masters of the art. The festival usually begins on or near the first weekend of August.

Youth Instrument
Gift Program

Working together with the Ted Brown Music Outreach program and Randy Oxford Entertainment, the SSBA has to date provided over 85 youngsters with musical instruments. Many of these aspiring musicians can be seen performing live on stage at the Kids Blues Jam Theater at Jazzbones every 4th Sunday of the month. To change a child's life through an instrument donation, please contact John Violette or drop by when the kids are scheduled to jam. Let's all help this next generation on their journey to "keeping the blues alive!"
